Welcome to the Sheridan Hotel Snail Detective. The owner of this hotel, Mr. Sheridan, was found dead last night. Who committed this foul deed? Is murder the only crime afoot? What does pasta sauce have to do with anything? It's up to you to solve the case!

There are five shady suspects to choose from; the mysterious man, the assistant manager, the chef, the beautiful actress and the maid. Choose wisely, or your reputation as the great Snail Detective will be in tatters.

Move around with the arrows or wasd keys.  Talk to the suspects again when you find new evidence, they might have more to say to you.

This is a short murder mystery game made in Bitsy with the help of Borksy for the Feb 2019 #bitsyjam with the theme of snails.

Surprisingly difficult-- I figured out the answer without realizing I had missed a clue, oops! Love the simple art, the mechanics were easily understood as well. The music was AWESOME.

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ

I know this might be an overly serious comment, but I have so much admiration for how efficiently and confidently Snail Detective just throws you straight into a mystery without any fluff or obstruction. I feel like so many mystery games go out of their way to obscure the fact that they don't actually have much of a mystery/puzzle at their core and Snail Detective does the literal opposite.

Well your overly serious comment made my day ๐Ÿ˜Š I haven't been able to make games in a couple of years thanks to work/uni so it's super lovely to find people are still playing my games! I'm a huuuuge mystery fan so I really appreciate your comment โค๏ธ

This is excellent.

Thank you :)

Hello, I will be presenting a short online presentation on using Bitsy for language learning. It may be recorded and posted somewhere I am not sure. Would it be fine for me to use a couple of screenshots from your game?

Yes, absolutely fine ๐Ÿ˜Š Where would I be able to watch it once it's finished? Sounds interesting

Thanks so much!  The presentation is actually going to be a bit shorter than I expected, so I may or may not include it. I would like to get in touch with you though could you send me an email at jrobins3 AT gustavus DOT edu ?

The more clues I collected, the more and more bewildered I became....and then it definitely took me several tries to solve the case, lmao. I wish that when I spoke, it was with the power of the Great Snail Detective. Incredible game!!!! ๐Ÿ’–

Thank you so much! :) Haha, it's definitely a tricky case to solve, I've learnt a lot from making it though so hopefully my next murder mystery is more clear and consise

Thank you so much! I loved your game, it made me laugh too. I have faith in big snail, all great Snail Detectives have to start somewhere...

Thank you so much :) I don't think I'll be expanding on this particular topic but I'll definitely be making more games in the future of a longer length. (I made this in 3 days while I was sick lol)

Doing it now. Im confused. The body is in room 121, but everyone keeps referencing room 212. Is this a typo?

Oooops :'D Yes, it totally is, thank you so much for spotting that. I'll see if I can fix it

Woa, sorry for the late reply. I'm never on this site these days. Good to know I wasn't going crazy. =))

Haha that's totally fine, welcome back :)

WOW, just WOW!  The art, and music fantastic, but the writing!  It was absolutely superb!  From the clues, suspects, at motives, it was an engaging mystery to solve! Also thank you for having to foresight  that you don't need to start over if you make the wrong choice ;) Lastly that he music track is PERFECT for this!

Thank you so so much! :D That is such a lovely thoughtful comment (yeahhh if I'd done that everyone would probably have rage quit lol :P )

Love the art and your choice of colors, and love the writing even more.  (It took me two guesses, but I'll become as good as canon Snail Detective someday!)

I believe in you! :D All the best Snail Detectives have to start somewhere :) and thank you <3

This is brilliant. I love the sparseness of your style, really understated and cool. The carpets, in particular, are lovely!

Thank you :)

Heard about this game on PC Gamer and had to give it a shot since i enjoy detective games, and man was i not disappointed

the Art style is basic but it really fits how goofy and fun the game is, loved the jazzy background music, and the dialogue and clues had a surprising amount of detail and thought put into them (even though i took 3 tries to get the right person)

all in all a really fun game, hopefully we see more great games on your end

(P.S.  : also checked out your art and i gotta say, holy crap is it impressive ... my programmer art is jealous)

PC gamer posted about my game?!? Wow that blows my mind. Thank you for mentioning that or else I'd have been totally baffled where my overnight followers and views came from.  And thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment, it really made my day! I actually loved the experience of making this game, so you'll definitely be seeing more from me :)

Gorgeous game, and a wonderful experience, awesome creation!

Thank you so much! :)

This was so much fun! I was terrible at guessing who did it but I had so much fun trying. A random thing I enjoyed way too much was the stairs, I loved going down there.

Thank you! :) Fun fact: The stairs were actually really ugly in the first model but my brother made me change them to their current look

I failed horribly at detecting the murderer, but I loved this anyway! Everything from the music to the room designs to the little icons for clues/deductions is just so good.

Thank you so much! :) Don't worry, I made the mystery a bit diabolical on purpose mwahaha

It took me 3 guesses to pick the murderer... my reputation as a snail detective is in tatters.

Oh dear, time to leave the country and start your detecting career again under a new name :P Thanks so much for playing :)

just take the shell off and be the great slug detective! - emma whoโ€™s sitting beside me
